Stoneware Cat

I took my first ceramics course this past fall and I had been dying all semester to sculpt a cat. I am really pleased with how it came out.

"Stoneware Cat", 7.5"high 4"wide, cone 10 stoneware, hot pink collar, glazes used: henesy celadon and VC satin babydoll black.

Commissioned Pet Portraits

"Niku", charcoal on paper, drawing for final product (tattoo)

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Bonnie and Clyde", 16x20, oil on canvas, December 2009

Octopus's Garden

"Octopus's Garden", 36x42, oil on canvas, Fall 2009

My favorite Beatles song is "Octopus's Garden". As a child I always imagined myself resting upon a giant orange octopus's arm greeting him in the shade.

Dog Series

I had never painted or drawn a dog before. I lean more towards cats but these paintings made me think about letting a dog into my life...maybe. :)

"Boston Terrier", 12x12, oil on canvas, Fall 2009

He is my personal favorite. So pissed off in a clown collar.

"Italian Greyhound", 12x12, oil on canvas, Fall 2009

Feather boas and painted nails? *sigh*

"Chihuahua", 12x12, oil on canvas, Fall 2009

80s poofy prom dress. Poor thing.

Animal Paintings

"Sphinx", 30x30, oil on canvas, Fall 2009

I am fascinated by the pet culture. This painting is pointing out that we are not the first civilization to give our pets a higher status in our lives and culture. This hairless "sphinx" cat is hyper aware and almost uncertain of the attention he has received in order to be adorned with a Pharaoh like necklace.

"Molly", 18x24, oil on canvas, Fall 2009

This is a painting I did of my rabbit Molly. She is a 4 year old Dutch rabbit. She enjoy tearing up paper, chewing through wires and being adorable.

"Curiosity Soaked the Cat", 18x24, oil on canvas, Fall 2009

I went more abstract and expressionistic with this work. These are two of my pet cats from childhood when they were kittens getting into the bathtub.

"Red Sweater", 24x18, oil on canvas, Fall 2009

Why would you ever put a sweater on a cat?? Obsession with your cat? maybe.

"Arnold", 18x24, oil on canvas, Fall 2009

This started out as this:

My professor decided we would all switch our paintings randomly with another person. They would then paint on our painting and then give it back for us to finished. Needless to say Arnold ended up being high on catnip at mardi gras.

Eric Portrait

"Eric",18x24, oil on canvas, 2009

At first I was going to do a series of 3 paintings of my boyfriend Eric. However, time marched on and I did not get a chance to do the other two. However, I like the singular image of him. I get that look from him all the time.

This will be shown at the Annual Members show at the Hopper House Art Center, in Nyack, NY.
